The USS Potomac Association is committed to preserving the legacy of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt through education for students and adults. Educational cruises highlight the impact of the FDR Era on our local and national history. Docents lead educational tours of the USS Potomac and facilitate in-classroom discussions with students of all ages.

Educational cruises highlight the use and impact of the USS Potomac on FDR during his presidency. Docent-led educational tours of the USS Potomac are conducted during the first half of the 1-hour cruise.
We take up to 90 students per cruise plus their teachers/chaperones. There could be two or more schools on each cruise. In order to facilitate docent-led tours, the students will be divided up into groups by USS Potomac staff. The number of groups will be determined by the number of docents available for your cruise.
The USS Potomac Association subsidizes most of the cost of these cruises; however, there is a nominal fee. The fee for each student is $5. We require one teacher/chaperone for every ten students. These teachers/chaperones accompany the students at no charge. There is a fee for chaperones greater than the ratio of one per ten of $5 each. Your teachers/chaperones are expected to maintain student discipline throughout the cruise.
Student cruises are intended for students in fifth grade and higher.
Reservations are required. Please call the Association at (510) 627-1215 for information. USS Potomac docents may be requested to make classroom visits prior to your scheduled cruise date.
Check out our questionnaire for elementary and middle school students to fill out during their cruise to test their knowledge!
School Dockside Tours
Field trips to tour the Historic Presidential Yacht USS Potomac dockside present a unique opportunity for students studying the Roosevelt Era and WWII. They will connect with history on an “up close and personal” basis.
In keeping with the mission of the USS Potomac Association, school field trips may be requested year-round on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. These are dockside tours, not cruises on the Bay.
It is strongly recommended that the students be in fifth grade or higher. These grade levels will benefit from this historical tour. There is no fee to students for these dockside tours. We require one teacher/chaperone for every ten students. These teachers/chaperones accompany the students at no charge. There is a fee for chaperones greater than the ratio of one per ten students of $10 for each additional adult.
Reservations are required. Contact us at (510) 627-1215 for additional information.
