POTOMAC TODAY

Today, the USS Potomac, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's "Floating White House", is a National Historic Landmark and a vibrant part of the East Bay Waterfront.

The 165-foot yacht, the centerpiece of the museum exhibit, first opened in 1995. Currently the Potomac is open for dockside tours on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. History cruises take place May through November on alternating weeks on Thursday and Saturdays.

The Visitor Center is open every weekday Monday through Friday from 9-4:30, and has a wealth of information about the Potomac including a fascinating video on her history, hard times and resurrection. Storyboards that chronicle the yacht's history line the walls and there is a library of books and videos available for check out.

The Potomac Association is currently involved in educational programs about the ship for area schools, history and educational cruises, special events cruises, and selected private charters.

The Potomac Association is an organization run by Volunteers and a small staff of two. Volunteers include: the policy-making Board of Governors, history docents, office and administrative workers, ship's maintenance crew, program and membership volunteers. Over 90 committed volunteers work at various tasks associated with the organization. Many of these individuals served in the Navy, Coast Guard, Marines, Merchant Marine, maritime unions or have worked at ports throughout the country.

Come visit us at Jack London Square in Oakland, California. We would be happy to welcome you aboard.
